- Hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) regulates multiple pathways involved in metabolism, inflammation, and coagulation and may contribute to thrombotic complications in patients with BCR::ABL1-negative myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN). This study investigated the expression of selected HIF-1α-regulated and thrombo-inflammatory genes (SLC2A1, F3, SELP, VEGFA, SERPINE1, PROS1, NLRP3 and THBS1) and their association with thrombotic events, JAK2 mutation status, and cytoreductive therapy. - Source: PubMed

Morath OlgaWolfrum ThereseCrodel CarlHochhaus AndreasErnst ThomasRinke Jenny - High-dose-rate brachytherapy boost (HDR-BTb) combined with external beam radiotherapy (EBRT) improves biochemical relapse-free survival (bRFS) in localised prostate cancer (PCa) yet ∼21% of patients relapse despite dose escalation. Hypoxia and angiogenesis biomarkers have been linked to treatment outcomes through immunohistochemistry (IHC) but genomic validation at the transcriptomic level remains lacking. This study hypothesised that hypoxia- and angiogenesis-related gene expression profiles could predict clinical benefit from HDR-BTb escalation, refining patient selection. - Source: PubMed

Lodhi TReardon MQuiles C GRojas A MChoudhury AHoskin P - Psychedelics such as psilocybin are known for their hallucinogenic properties and have also been reported to produce long-lasting therapeutic effects in depression and possibly also other psychiatric disorders. Several lines of evidence suggest that psilocybin exerts its effects through activation of 5-HT2A receptors located postsynaptically to serotonergic neurons, e.g., in the frontal cortex, parts of the limbic system, including the amygdala and hippocampus, and striatum. The present study was conducted to shed further light on psilocybin-induced changes in gene expression. - Source: PubMed

Veysi AshkanAtanasovski DanielaArdalan MaryamMotamed NasrinEriksson Elias - Colorectal liver metastases (CRLM) are a major cause of cancer-related deaths. Glucose transporter 1 (GLUT1) is a key mediator of glycolytic metabolism in malignant and immune cells; however, the prognostic relevance of compartment-specific GLUT1 patterns in CRLM remains undefined. We hypothesized that spatial GLUT1 expression at the tumor-liver interface may reflect clinically relevant microenvironmental biology. - Source: PubMed
