- Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease driven by dysregulated immune responses, particularly the aberrant activation of T helper 17 (Th17) cells. While microbiome-based therapies show promise, wild-type probiotics often lack specific mechanisms to target the metabolic and immunological drivers of inflammation. - Source: PubMed

Wang JianghaoTian Zhe-XianChen ShanwenChen Grace YWang Yi-PingWang Pengyuan - Active Tuberculosis (TB) had the challenge in early detection. Our pilot study showed four novel diagnostic biomarkers had high value of TB diagnosis. The aim of the study was to further verify the diagnosis value of these biomarkers for active pulmonary TB (PTB) from non-TB through clinical trial with large scale samples. - Source: PubMed

Ke HuiXu Hong-XiangXiong Kun-LongWang HuaZeng YiZhang Qi-LongZhou JieBai YanLiang Bing-QingZhang Shao-JunLiu Li-RongXie Jian-PingZhang Zhe-MinFan Lin - Astrocytes are increasingly recognized as key regulators of multiple sclerosis (MS) pathogenesis, known to actively influence neuroinflammation, blood-brain barrier integrity, leukocyte recruitment, glial scar formation, and tissue repair. Evidence from both MS and its animal models demonstrates substantial astrocyte heterogeneity, exerting either pathogenic or neuroprotective functions depending on the local microenvironment. In this review, we discuss the diverse roles of astrocytes in MS, with particular focus on signaling pathways that govern astrocyte responses during chronic neuroinflammation. We further explore the growing evidence that astrocytes within chronic active lesion cores are not merely passive structural cells, but instead may be involved in immune regulation, survival signaling, and tissue maintenance. Collectively, these findings support a revised view of astrocytes as regulators of lesion dynamics and CNS homeostasis during MS. A deeper understanding of astrocyte heterogeneity and the signaling networks that control astrocyte function may reveal novel therapeutic opportunities to limit neurodegeneration and disease progression. - Source: PubMed

Tinkey Rachel ASmith Brandon CWilliams Jessica L - Accurate diagnosis and effective treatment response monitoring (TRM) remain major challenges in tuberculosis (TB) control. Most existing tools are sputum based, yet many patients are unable to produce sputum at diagnosis or during treatment. We evaluated blood-based host transcriptional markers (HTM) for active TB diagnosis and TRM. - Source: PubMed

Currently, no optimal radioprotective agent is widely available for RIHD treatment. Shenfu Decoction (SFD) has been used as a Traditional Chinese Medicine for thousands of years. Recent studies have shown that SFD can enhance cardiac function. However, the key bioactive compounds in SFD and their underlying mechanisms in RIHD remain unclear. - Source: PubMed
