- Fenestrated and branched endovascular repair (F/B-EVAR) for thoracoabdominal (TAAA) and juxta/pararenal (J/P-AAA) aortic aneurysms has shown good mid- and long-term outcomes; however, the bridging stent graft (BSG) choice remains debated. A new low-profile BSG, The GORE VIABAHN VBX Balloon Expandable (BX) was introduced in December 2024. The aim was to report the BX preliminary outcomes in F/B-EVAR. - Source: PubMed
Caputo StefaniaGallitto EnricoCappiello AntonioMorreale SilviaVacirca AndreaSpath PaoloPini RodolfoFaggioli GianlucaMascoli ChiaraGargiulo Mauro - : Congenital pulmonary airway malformation (CPAM) is a rare developmental disorder characterized by cystic lung lesions, yet its extracellular matrix (ECM) composition remains poorly understood. This study employed decellularization and data-independent acquisition (DIA) proteomics to compare ECM profiles between cystic (CPAM) and histologically normal non-diseased (ND) regions from the lungs of four patients. : The decellularized scaffolds retained their native architecture with minimal residual DNA (<50 ng/mg). Proteomic analysis revealed 431 differentially expressed proteins (DEPs), with 171 upregulated and 260 downregulated in CPAM. Key findings revealed CPAM-specific enrichment of collagens (COL4A6, COL4A2, COL10A1, COL21A1 and PIIINP), glycoproteins (SPP1, FRAS1, FREM1, FREM2, LTBP1 and FBLN7), ECM regulators (TENM2, ROR2 and OMD), and ECM-affiliated proteins (ANXA7), alongside downregulation of glycoproteins (VASN and ABI3BP), proteoglycans (PODN and MXRA7), ECM regulators (SCARA5, PAPPA, SAA4, CPXM1, CTSC, THY1, SERPINA6/A1/D1, BSG, LYVE1, ITIH4 and CD44), and ECM-affiliated proteins (LGALSL). Pathway analysis highlighted the dysregulation of TGF-β, PI3K-AKT, and mTOR signaling in CPAM and aberrant ECM-cell interactions in pathogenesis. We also evaluated their functional properties and investigated the impact of ECM-based hydrogels on recellularization. : These findings provide a comprehensive proteomic atlas of CPAM ECM alterations, offering insights into disease mechanisms and potential therapeutic targets. - Source: PubMed

Li YananYang PingYuan MiaoZhu XinglongMao ShengqiangYang YingYao MenglinChen FeiZhou YanyanBao JiXu ChangLi Yi - The recyclability of pots made entirely from brewer's grains (BSGs) and poly(butylene succinate) (PBS) at a PBS/BSG weight ratio of 70:30, hereafter referred to as MIXr, was evaluated. The resulting pots exhibited tensile strength at break comparable to that of conventional fossil-based polymeric materials. The study aimed to determine the maximum content of recycled materials that could be incorporated into virgin (PBSv) while maintaining acceptable properties, thereby extending the material's life cycle through mechanical recycling before disposal via biodegradation or composting. For comparison, blends of virgin PBS with recycled PBS (PBSv-PBSr) and recycled BSG/PBS material (PBSv-MIXr) were prepared at the same recycled-material contents. The materials were characterized in terms of processability, tensile properties, thermal stability (TGA), chemical group analysis (FTIR), and surface properties. The results showed that the presence of BSG significantly influences the recyclability of the biocomposite. While virgin PBS could incorporate up to 10 wt.% recycled PBS without a significant loss in ductility or thermal stability, PBSv-MIXr blends exhibit a ~20-30% reduction in deformability at MIXr contents ranging from 2 wt.% to 20 wt.% and a reduction in thermal stability ranging from 16-22% at levels of incorporation ranging between 10 wt.% and 40 wt.%. - Source: PubMed

Tang WeichunXu PengchenWang ShengliSu GuizhenLi QiangGu BiaoWang Nannan - Education systems need to withstand frequent shocks, including disease and climate events, which close schools for more than 222 million children. During these emergencies, alternative models are needed to deliver education. However, rigorous evaluation of effective educational approaches in these settings is challenging and rare, especially across multiple countries. Here we present results from five randomized trials in India, Kenya, Nepal, the Philippines and Uganda to evaluate the provision of education in emergency settings. We test multiple scalable models of remote targeted tutoring instruction, comparing delivery by governments and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Whereas text messages have mixed results, tutorials conducted via phone call show effectiveness across diverse settings. We find large and robust effect sizes on learning. These effects are highly cost-effective, and deliver approximately 4 years of high-quality instruction per US$100 spent. Results show large effects when delivered by government teachers or NGO instructors. Together, our results reveal that it is possible to strengthen the resilience of education systems, enabling education provision amid disruptions, and to deliver cost-effective learning gains across contexts and with governments. - Source: PubMed
