- The Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test-Individual Form (NNAT-I) is widely used to assess nonverbal reasoning while minimizing language demands, yet evidence regarding its psychometric properties in Turkish middle school students is limited. This study examined the reliability, convergent validity, internal structure, item functioning, and differential item functioning (DIF) of the NNAT-I in 1130 students aged 10-14 years attending schools across socioeconomic development strata in Aydın, Türkiye. Internal consistency, test-retest and alternate-form reliability, convergent validity, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), Rasch analyses, multiple-group Rasch DIF analyses, and linear mixed-effects modeling were conducted. The NNAT-I demonstrated high internal consistency (Cronbach's α = 0.93; McDonald's ω = 0.94), strong test-retest and alternate-form reliability, and strong correlations with the Test of Nonverbal Intelligence-Third Edition (TONI-3) and Raven's Standard Progressive Matrices (RSPM). CFA provided qualified rather than unequivocal evidence for a predominantly unidimensional structure, with model fit varying according to item response distributions and the treatment of structurally nonadministered responses. Rasch analyses of the calibrated items supported an ordered hierarchy of item difficulty, with all items showing Infit values within the prespecified descriptive reference range. After adjustment for multiple comparisons, DIF analyses identified significant gender-related DIF for only one item, while no items showed significant age-related DIF. Linear mixed-effects modeling showed that grade level and gender were significantly associated with NNAT-I scores, whereas chronological age was not independently associated with performance. These findings provide evidence regarding the reliability, convergent validity, internal structure, and item functioning of the NNAT-I in this Turkish middle-school sample, while also indicating that conclusions regarding unidimensionality should remain qualified. The findings underscore the importance of local psychometric evaluation before applying nonverbal measures in new educational and cultural contexts. - Source: PubMed

Kavruk Sevinç ZeynepBildiren Ahmet - While radical cystectomy is standard for muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC), micrometastasis-related recurrence is common. Cisplatin-based neoadjuvant therapy (NAT) confers modest benefits, while immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) provide new efficacy-enhancing strategies. This study aims to compare the efficacy and safety of ICIs with chemotherapy (NAC-ICI), neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC), and no neoadjuvant therapy (NNAT). It also explores potential biomarkers predictive of NAT response and evaluates the real-world efficacy of NAC-IC. This single-center retrospective analysis included 80 radical cystectomy patients, with 51 NNAT group and 29 in the NAT group. Survival outcomes were evaluated by Kaplan-Meier survival curves, with log-rank test and restricted mean survival time (RMST) for comparisons. Pathological responses were assessed by complete response (pCR) and downstaging (pDS). Treatment-related adverse events (TRAEs) and predictive hematological biomarkers were analyzed. Kaplan-Meier curves showed NAT is non-significant survival advantage over NNAT ( = 0.30). The RMST analysis showed the NAC-ICI had significantly longer RMST than the NNAT (56.00 vs. 47.73 months; Δ = +8.27 months; = 0.0008). Fisher's exact test showed that NAC-ICI had a numerically higher pCR rate (42.10%) than NAC (20.00%), but the difference was non-significant ( = 0.414) ROC analysis showed baseline platelet count (PLT) was a significant negative predictor of pCR after NAC-ICI. This study indicates potential feasibility and safety of NAT for MIBC patients. Chemoimmunotherapy trends toward better pathological and survival outcomes than chemotherapy alone, but no statistically significant differences were observed. Baseline PLT may be a potential prdictive biomarker. - Source: PubMed

Chen ShaohuaGan XiaoLv PingMeng QingguiLin XiaocaoZhang Qingyun - The aim of this study was to examine the psychometric properties of Form A of the Test of Nonverbal Intelligence-Third Edition (TONI-3) in Turkish middle school students aged 10 years 0 months to 14 years 0 months. Although TONI-3 has previously been validated in Turkish children and late adolescents, psychometric evidence for early adolescence remains limited. - Source: PubMed

Bildiren AhmetKavruk Sevinç Zeynep - Adipose tissue development significantly influences meat quality and economic traits in beef cattle. In this study, we identified a novel circular RNA derived from two exons (exons 3 and exons 9) of the gene, designated as circNID2, which exhibits high structural stability and marked upregulation during adipocyte differentiation. Functional assays demonstrated that circNID2 suppresses the proliferation and apoptosis of preadipocytes while robustly promoting adipogenic differentiation and lipid accumulation. Although containing several putative open reading frames, circNID2 lacks protein-coding potential. Mechanistically, circNID2 functions as a competing endogenous RNA by sponging miR-339a, thereby relieving the post-transcriptional repression of its downstream target, Neuronatin (). Functional rescue experiments further validated that circNID2 partially neutralizes the regulatory effects of miR-339a on preadipocyte proliferation, apoptosis, and differentiation. Collectively, these findings demonstrate that circNID2 regulates bovine preadipocyte function through the newly established circNID2/miR-339a/NNAT axis. This study provides novel insights into the post-transcriptional mechanisms governing mammalian adipogenesis and highlights circNID2 as a potential molecular target for improving fat deposition traits in cattle. - Source: PubMed

Liu YueZhang MengyangHe ZhuoyuanSun LiBai YangyangPan ChuanyingSun XiaomeiLi YangJiang EnhuiLan Xianyong - Atherosclerosis (AS) is driven by endothelial dysfunction, lipid dysregulation, and inflammation, yet its molecular mechanisms remain incompletely understood. Neuronatin (NNAT), an endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-associated protein, has an unclear role in AS. ER-mitochondria contact sites have been implicated in endothelial cell function. This study aimed to investigate the role of NNAT and its association with ER-mitochondria interactions in AS. - Source: PubMed
