- Prostatic hyperplasia is a common condition among aging males characterized by excessive prostate cell proliferation, and while it is a benign process, it involves significant metabolic reprogramming and immune infiltration-features typically associated with malignant tumors. This study aimed to elucidate the interaction network between the PIEZO channels and genes related to glycometabolic reprogramming and mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS), highlighting their roles in the progression of prostatic hyperplasia. - Source: PubMed

Zheng YajieZhao FuguangXu PengweiZeng ChuchuSun ZongrunWu GuanlinWang Yibin - Recent evidence determined that acupoints frequently overlap with regions of referred somatic hypersensitivity induced by visceral disease, a phenomenon known as acupoint sensitization. This state is typically characterized by sensory hypersensitivity and functional enhancement, often accompanied by superior therapeutic outcomes following acupuncture. However, the neurobiological mechanisms that prime acupoints for enhanced responsiveness remain poorly understood. - Source: PubMed

Xu WenjieZhang DingdanTang YuanweiWang YingWang ZijieXi HanqingGao XinyanZhu BingCui Xiang - How does brushing one's hair become agony? In a recent study, Li, Son, and colleagues genetically isolated the specific trigeminal afferents that transduce touch into pain after nerve injury, revealing a critical role for Piezo2 in driving both evoked mechanical hypersensitivity and ongoing spontaneous activity within a heterogeneous afferent ensemble. - Source: PubMed

Dong DongCheng Longzhen - Big Bang theories are connected to gravity by force of attraction. Forced lengthening, like eccentric contractions, instigate proprioception as a result of working against gravity. Piezo2, as the principal mechanosensory ion channel responsible for proprioception, is theorized to fine-modulate these anti-gravitational contractions in order to provide system-wide ultrafast postural control. This mechanism may instantaneously emit energy and force through Piezo2 in order to offset gravity by anti-gravity entropic-spring-like stochastic mechanics and it is suggested to be propagated by quantum tunneling of protons (and electrons). However, a Piezo2-initiated wormhole-like mechanism with the contribution of cryptochromes should be considered as part of this ultrafast long-distance non-synaptic neurotransmission, although the quantum gravity concept is short of being unequivocally proven to be unified with quantum theory. The impairment of this theoretical ultrafast signaling is analogous to a Big Bang-like mechanism within a given compartment, or acquired Piezo2 channelopathy, leading to the principal gateway to pathophysiology. - Source: PubMed

Sonkodi Balázs - Brachial plexus avulsion (BPA) induced neuropathic pain (NP) affects up to 90% patients with BPA, which is often characterized by mechanical allodynia. The gradual chronicity of the pain and the lack of effective treatment methods make it a challenging issue for researchers and clinicians. Mechanosensitive channel, Piezo2, has been reported to participate in several physiological processes including NP. However, whether it plays a role in BPA-induced NP and related mechanisms at the cervical dorsal root ganglion (DRG) level remains unclear. In this study, we focused on the peripheral level Piezo2 and intended to explore its role in BPA-induced NP. - Source: PubMed
