- Cytokines interleukin-17 (IL-17) and interleukin-20 (IL-20) play important roles in inflammatory processes and autoimmune diseases. Using systematic evolution of ligands by exponential enrichment (SELEX), we have isolated DNA aptamers for each of these cytokines. For IL-17A, the best aptamers bound with values as low as 4 nM, comparable to previously reported aptamers. IL-20 represents a novel target for aptamer identification and SELEX isolated aptamers with values as low as 120 nM. Photo-crosslinking experiments confirmed aptamer binding to its cytokine target, most likely to the cytokine monomer. These novel DNA aptamers for IL-17 and IL-20 represent valuable tools for studying cytokine biology and developing potential therapeutics for inflammatory and autoimmune conditions like psoriasis and impaired wound healing. - Source: PubMed

Parvez AliSully KirstenBaum Dana A - Psoriasis is a non-communicable inflammatory skin disease that affects approximately 2%-3% of the world's population. Given its high impact on quality of life and the fact that a subset of patients exhibits suboptimal or secondary loss of response to current treatments, identifying new therapeutic strategies is crucial. Proliferation-associated protein 2G4 (PA2G4) is a transcription factor that has been exclusively studied in cancer research, where it promotes cell growth and enhances tumourigenesis by inhibiting apoptosis. However, its role in inflammatory skin diseases remains largely unknown. - Source: PubMed

While persistent inflammation has emerged as an important feature of this condition, it is unclear if immune responses from COVID-19 vaccination or SARS-CoV-2 re-infection exacerbate or mirror the initial inflammatory responses. - Source: PubMed

Bansal AmitOlechnowicz Sam W ZKiernan-Walker NicholasCumming JacobAbdul Azeez ImadhMazhari Ramin Cox Rebecca JMueller IvoBowden RoryEriksson Emily M - Interleukin (IL)-24, a member of the IL-20 cytokine family, is secreted by multiple cell types, such as immune cells (T cells, B cells, NK cells, macrophages), and non-immune cells (epithelial cells and fibroblasts). IL-24 and its downstream signaling pathways mediate vital biological processes, including processes governing cell growth, fate determination, cell death, and inflammation, albeit with effects that are context-dependent across disease states. In this review, we present comprehensive summary and recent breakthroughs in IL-24 characterization and its emerging pathogenic functions in type 2 immune diseases, including chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU), atopic dermatitis (AD), allergic contact dermatitis (ACD), bullous pemphigoid (BP), chronic nodular prurigo (CNPG), and allergic airway diseases, in an attempt to provide valuable insights for developing its potential as biomarkers or therapeutic targets. - Source: PubMed

Song XiaotingLan DongLiu Fang - IL20RB, interleukin 20 receptor subunit beta, functions as a cytokine receptor subunit coding gene and has been discovered to serve an essential function in human malignancies. However, the link between IL20RB expression, clinical outcomes, and tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) remains unclear. - Source: PubMed
