Isotropic Conduction Network and Defect Chemistry in Mg3+δ Sb2 -Based Layered Zintl Compounds with High Thermoelectric Performance.

Thermoelectric performance in the layered Zintl phase n-type Mg3+δ (Sb,Bi)2 is reported. Insertion of the excess Mg into the compounds is crucial for realizing n-type carrier transport with multivalley and isotropic character. An excellent ZT of 1.51 ± 0.06 at 716 K is achieved in the sintered polycrystals at the composition of Mg3.2 Sb1.5 Bi0.49 Te0.01 . - Source :PubMed

Orange light-emitting Ca3 Mg3 (PO4 )4 :Sm(3+) phosphors.

This work reports the photoluminescence properties of Ca3 Mg3 (PO4 )4 :Sm(3)(+) phosphors that were synthesized by the combustion method. The phase formation and morphology of the prepared phosphors were analysed by X-ray diffraction studies and scanning electron microscopy. Ca3 Mg3 (PO4 )4 :Sm(3)(+) phosphors give orange light emission when excited by near-ultraviolet (NUV) and blue light. The photoluminescence characteristics of the as-prepared phosphors were investigated and their emission spectra showed three peaks due to (4) G5/2  → (6) H5/2 , (4) G5/2  → (6) H7/2 and (4) G5/2  → (6) H9/2 transitions. The mechanism responsible for the concentration quenching of luminescence was found to be an electric dipole-dipole interaction. The CIE chromaticity coordinates suggested that the prepared phosphors are potential candidates for orange light-emitting diodes (LEDs). - Source :PubMed

Mg3(VO4)2-MgO-ZrO2 nano-catalysts for oxidative dehydrogenation of n-butane.

A series of X-Mg3(VO4)2-MgO-ZrO2 nano-catalysts with different vanadium content (X = 3.3, 5.3, 7.0, 10.2, and 13.4) were prepared by a single-step citric acid-derived sol-gel method for use in the oxidative dehydrogenation of n-butane to n-butene and 1,3-butadiene. The effect of vanadium content of X-Mg3(VO4)2-MgO-ZrO2 nano-catalysts on their physicochemical properties and catalytic activities in the oxidative dehydrogenation of n-butane was investigated. Successful formation of X-Mg3(VO4)2-MgO-ZrO2 nano-catalysts was confirmed by XRD, Raman spectroscopy, and ICP-AES analyses. The catalytic performance of X-Mg3(VO4)2-MgO-ZrO2 nano-catalysts strongly depended on vanadium content. All the X-Mg3(VO4)2-MgO-ZrO2 nano-catalysts showed a stable catalytic performance without catalyst deactivation during the reaction. Among the catalysts tested, 7.0-Mg3(VO4)2-MgO-ZrO2 nano-catalyst showed the best catalytic performance in terms of yield for total dehydrogenation products (TDP, n-butene and 1,3-butadiene). TPRO (temperature-programmed reoxidation) experiments were carried out to measure the oxygen capacity of the catalyst. Experimental results revealed that oxygen capacity of the catalyst was closely related to the catalytic performance. Rapid synthesis, structure and photocatalysis of pure bismuth A-site perovskite of Bi(Mg3/8Fe2/8Ti3/8)O3.

Bi(Mg3/8Fe2/8Ti3/8)O3, a member of a small group of pure Bi(3+) A site perovskites, exhibiting a high ferroelectric Curie point (Tc), was rapidly synthesized by a sample method of molten salt synthesis. The purity of Bi(Mg3/8Fe2/8Ti3/8)O3 samples is directly affected by the reaction conditions such as the soaking temperature, and the heating and cooling rates. The as-prepared Bi(Mg3/8Fe2/8Ti3/8)O3 particles are well-formed, cube-shaped single-crystals with sizes ranging from 200-300 nm. The chemical states of Bi and Fe ions are Bi(3+) and Fe(3+) in Bi(Mg3/8Fe2/8Ti3/8)O3. UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectra and preliminary photocatalytic experiments indicate that the pure Bi(3+) A site perovskite of Bi(Mg3/8Fe2/8Ti3/8)O3 has a suitable energy bandgap (1.86 eV) and shows obvious photocatalytic activity for the decolorization of methyl blue under visible-light irradiation. The present work suggests potential future applications of Bi(Mg3/8Fe2/8Ti3/8)O3 in photocatalysis and ferroelectric photovoltaic effects. - Source :PubMed

Induction of trimeric [Mg3(OH)(CO2)6] in a porous framework by a desymmetrized tritopic ligand.

The use of a desymmetrized tritopic ligand with both carboxyl and pyridyl functionalities leads to the first occurrence of the [Mg(3)(μ(3)-OH)(CO(2))(6)] trimer as the 3-D framework building block in a porous crystal that shows relatively high H(2) uptake (1.37% at 77 K and 1 atm). - Source :PubMed
