A simply synthesized biphenyl substituted piperidin-4-one for the fluorescence chemosensing of Cd(2).

Ion-induced change in fluorescence is a straight-forward method for detection of toxic metal ions showing immediate response. Cadmium ions are toxic to the environment. We report in this paper a piperidine-4-one-based fluorescent chemosensor of Cd(2+) ions, designed and synthesized by a simple method. The compound is characterized using infra-red (IR) and (1) H-NMR spectral techniques. The chemosensor showed Cd(2+) ion selectivity and sensitivity in aqueous solution. The stoichiometry and the binding constants were determined using fluorescence spectroscopy. Piperidine-4-one shows a 1:1 stoichiometric binding to Cd(2+) . TQOPEN (N,N,N',N'-Tetrakis(2-quinolylmethyl)-3-oxa-1,5-pentanediamine) Family as Heptadentate Fluorescent Cd(2+) Sensors.

A quinoline-based heptadentate ligand, N,N,N',N'-tetrakis(2-quinolylmethyl)-3-oxa-1,5-pentanediamine (TQOPEN), exhibits a fluorescence increase (ICd/I0 = 25, ϕCd = 0.017) at 428 nm upon addition of 1 equiv of Cd(2+). In contrast, 1 equiv of Zn(2+) induces a negligible fluorescence change due to weak interaction (IZn/I0 = 2.5, IZn/ICd = 10%). In comparison with TQOPEN, the thia and aza derivatives TQSPEN and TQNPEN exhibit improved Cd(2+)/Zn(2+) selectivity and higher Cd(2+)-binding affinity, respectively. The solid-state structures of mononuclear Cd(2+) and hydroxide-bridged dinuclear Zn(2+) complexes of TQOPEN were elucidated by X-ray crystallography. Although the crystal structure of the TQOPEN-Cd(2+) complex exhibits a six-coordinate metal center, in which one quinoline weakly interacts with the Cd center (Cd···Nquinoline = 3.303(3) Å), a (1)H NMR study at 233 K suggests that all quinolines interact with the Cd center to form a symmetrical seven-coordinate structure in solution. Theoretical calculations (TDDFT) support the flexible coordination environment around the Cd center, leading to intramolecular excimer formation with two quinoline moieties in the excited state. The importance of a heptadentate structure was further demonstrated by the lack of Cd(2+) specificity with hexadentate ligands TriQOPEN (N,N,N'-tris(2-quinolylmethyl)-3-oxa-1,5-pentanediamine) and TQCPEN (N,N,N',N'-tetrakis(2-quinolylmethyl)-1,5-pentanediamine). - Source :PubMed

A Rhodamine-Based Fluorescent Chemosensor for the Detection of Pb(2+), Hg(2+) and Cd(2).

A new rhodamine-based fluorescent chemosensor (1) has been designed and synthesized by linking rhodamine 6G hydrazide with N-methylisatin via an imine linkage. The receptor can selectively recognize and sense Pb(2+), Hg(2+) and Cd(2+) by showing different fluorescence characteristics. In ethanol/HEPES buffer medium, the addition of Cd(2+) caused a yellowish-green fluorescence, while the presence of Pb(2+) or Hg(2+) gave rise to an orange fluorescence. Additionally, the sensor shows an irreversible fluorescence response to Pb(2+) and reversible fluorescence responses to Hg(2+) and Cd(2+). - Source :PubMed

Efficient removal of Cd(2+) ion from water by calcium alginate hydrogel filtration membrane.

Calcium alginate (CaAlg) hydrogel filtration membrane was prepared using urea as pore-forming agent. The effects of preparation and operating conditions on the removal rate of Cd(2+) were researched. The removal mechanism of Cd(2+) and the anti-fouling property of CaAlg membrane were investigated. The removal rate of the CaAlg filtration membrane reached over 99.5% within 120 min when 20 mg/L Cd(2+) was used, and the flux was 15.5 L/m(2)h at 0.1 MPa when the thickness of the membrane was 0.28 ± 0.08 mm. However, the removal rate of Cd(2+) was below 10.0% when the same concentration Cd(2+) solution was adsorbed by CaAlg membrane with the same size. Energy dispersive spectroscope analysis demonstrated that the removal of Cd(2+) depended on the adsorption and ion exchange of Ca(2+) by Cd(2+). CaAlg membrane exhibited a higher removal rate for Cd(2+) (almost 100%). It was the filtration process that promoted the adsorption and ion exchange of Cd(2+) in CaAlg hydrogel. - Source :PubMed

The first report of CD2 associated protein gene, in a teleost (Rock bream, Oplegnathus fasciatus): An investigation of the immune response upon infection with several pathogens.

CD2 is expressed on the surfaces of virtually all T cells and natural killer (NK) cells. In mammals, the CD2 molecule is 50 kDa. The cytoplasmic tail of CD2 interacts with CD2-associated protein (CD2AP), which plays an important role in mediating the trigger signal in outer magnetic pole cells. In this study, we identified CD2AP from rock bream and investigated its gene expression. The ORF of CD2AP (1950 bp) encodes 650 amino acids (aa). CD2AP has a Src homology 3 (SH3) domain. Quantitative real-time PCR analysis revealed that CD2AP shows higher expression in the gills and skin. Under experimental challenge, CD2AP gene expression was increased as relative to the control after 7 days. This result will improve our understanding of blood vessels in teleost fish, and will provide a basis for the study of CD2-related genes. - Source :PubMed
